Hansen Crib and Barn

Hansen Crib and Barn, 4015-340th Avenue, Ruthven (Clay County) – From Ruthven, go 4 miles south on N18/340th Avenue

The Hansen farmstead is home to a one-of-a-kind landmark corn crib built in the early 1940s holds 7,000 bushels of ear corn and 4,000 bushels of small grain.  In the middle of the crib is a bucket system that transports the grain to the top of the crib and can be released into multiple outlets.  Carl Hansen, his 4 sons, and 2 bricklayers built the crib.  Carl’s grandson currently lives on the farm (Restoration Grant).  Standing tall next to the corn crib is an early 1900s gambrel roof barn dairy barn.  The hay loft is still in original condition with the addition of stairs in place of the original ladder access (Preservation Award).
