Koopman Barn

Koopman Barns, 1951 205th St, Bennett (Cedar County)

After purchasing the acreage with this 1880s barn in 1993, the owners took steps to ensure it will last for years to come.   First steps included a new asphalt roof, siding repairs, and door replacements.  Over the past thirty-one years, it has housed peafowl, ornamental pheasants and chickens.  It has also been used for storage of pots and greenhouse equipment as well as a home for several generations of farm cats.  The original configuration was for housing horses, and the barn is now in the process of being fully restored.  A new metal roof was installed in 2020 and new siding/window installation started in 2024 with expected completion in 2025.  It is being restored with no specific purpose in mind, and nest boxes have been installed in the tall hay loft area for both kestrels and barn owls.
