Walton Barns, 2120 Old Muscatine Rd, Wilton (Cedar County)
The farmstead is home to two barns including the oldest barn in Cedar County, built in 1840’s (south side of road). Support poles and main frame were hewn by hand from the forest trees near the area. Barn is 21 ft x 32 ft long and 20 feet wide. Wooden pegs to put it together and original wood floor is still in it. The barn once held 18 horses. Barn was one of the first buildings insured by the White Pigeon company. With the main farmstead on the north side of the road, you will find a barn built in 1880 by James C. Walton. Barn is 30 ft x 46 ft and 22 ft to the peak. There is also a lean to attached on the east side of the barn. There is a second floor in the middle of the barn.
