1876 Moeckly Barn

1876 Moeckly Barn (New for 2024), 4395 NW 118th Ave, Polk City (Polk County)

Farm was settled in 1854 by Konrad Moeckly after his family emigrated from Switzerland.  The 46×100 ft gable-roofed bank barn was built in 1876 to accommodate a horse stud operation which imported stallions from Europe.  The farmstead is part of the Moeckly Family Farm, L.L.C. with three generations actively involved in the farming operation.   The barn provides shelter to a beautiful herd of White Park Cattle, a rare beef breed in the US that originated in Great Britain (Award of Distinction).   2024 Fall Tour Note:   After visiting the Moeckly Barn, make the quick trip to visit the Big Creek Historical Society Museum located at 116 3rd Street “West” across from the Square in Polk City.  Museum will be open from 1-4 PM both days and features a display on the barn’s builder, Adam Schaal.
