Dale and Judy Mills Barn

Dale and Judy Mills Barn (New for 2024), 20664 Claybanks Drive, Nora Springs (Cerro Gordo County) – Exit 190 off U.S.18, half mile north, one mile right after crossing Winnebago River bridge.

1920s gambrel barn was built for dairy with an attached loafing shed.  It was later used for hogs, then beef cattle.   After two rounds of painting the barn with each only lasting 10 years, the owners made the decision in 2004 to add red steel siding for long-term preservation.  Today, it is used for storage, play space, and home to multiple farm cats.  The loafing shed has been converted into the “Barn EyeMax” which is filled wall-wall-ceiling barn photos, framed puzzles, and scale model barn. The farmstead also features a barn-themed bed and breakfast, a sculpture garden, and collection of cupolas.  The owners have also constructed an octagonal barn shop and a stone round filled with historical barn artifacts (Preservation Award).
