This barn was built in 1875. The pre-drilled and precut segments of the barn were brought to Mechanicsville by train from Chicago during the winter, unloaded from the train, placed on bobsleds and carried 5 miles to the farm by the neighbors. In the spring all the neighbors assembled the barn on its current site. The barn measures 56’ x 42’ and has always been used for livestock, hay and straw storage. The barn is still being used today for a few cattle and horses. The barn has always been well maintained and is still in good condition.
