Hanke Legacy Farm Barn (New for 2024), 2251 W 140th St S, Mitchellville (Jasper County)
Gambrel-roof barn built in 1924 is 110 feet long and 36 feet wide was originally used for Percheron work horses. Barn was converted to dairy and transitioned through three different milking system. Visitors can walk into the 8-cow milking parlor. Barn is now used in support of a beef operation, and you will still find bales of hay in the haymow. The barn features a unique Farmec vertical bale elevator to transport square bales into the haymow. The barn suffered extensive damage in the 2020 derecho, and it was lovingly restored for future generations to enjoy. (Award of Distinction)
