Helms Farm Barn

Helms Farm Barn, 16127 NW 142nd St, Madrid (Polk County) – 1 mile south of Madrid on Highway 17

The Helms Barn, built in 1910 by Charles Helms after he returned from the Spanish American War, remained in the family until it was gifted to the Madrid Historical Society in 2019. It is a 3-story pegged barn in basically original condition. At one point in time, the barn housed mules that were used in the local coal mines (Award of Distinction).
