Hillmann Barn

Hillmann Barn, 2329 210th St, Wheatland (Cedar County)

Barn was built in the late 1800’s to house dairy cows and remained a working barn ever since.  A unique feature of this barn was the 3 loft /roof doors that at one point in its history were opened for a hay elevator to dump the bales directly into the mow (doors are covered now but can be seen from inside).  The east side of the barn has a unique long pitched steel roof over the loafing shed. The current owners have alpacas underneath the main section of the barn (full basement/bank barn) and have cattle in the loafing shed. Prior to the previous owner’s retirement (Louis Hillmann) the barn was used for many decades to raise hogs. Koby and Shelby Hillmann are the 6th of the Hillmann generation to live on the farm purchased in 1864.
